What is Occupational Hygiene?

Occupational Hygiene uses science and engineering to prevent ill health in the workplace. There are a variety of different health hazards facing employers and employees within the work environment, from stress, repetitive strain injuries and infectious diseases to exposure to chemicals, noise and extreme temperature. These illnesses have a significant impact on businesses; between 2017 and 2018 work-related ill health or injury the UK economy an estimated value of £15 billion.*

Your Duty?

Occupational Hygiene encompasses a number of separate legislative acts which each put duties onto both employers and employees. Included within this list are, ‘The Control of Substances Hazardous to Health (COSHH) Regulations 2002’, ‘The Control of Noise at Work Regulations 2005’ as well as ‘The Control of Vibration at Work Regulations 2005’.
